Springdale Stake Pinewood Derby

Attention all Pinewood Derby fans:
The 2013 Springdale Stake-wide Pinewood Derby will be held at the Springdale Stake Center on Saturday, 16 March 2013.  Weigh-in for the cubs will start at 9:15 am at which time cars will be checked to make sure they follow the guidelines for Pinewood Derby cars as described below. Once a car meets the requirements for the derby, no further adjustments to the car will be allowed.  The racing for the cub scouts is set to begin at 10 am with all of the scouts racing by level: all the wolves will race in the first contest, followed by all of the bears, and then all the Webelos.  Each car will get to race on each of the four lanes on the track and place (1st, 2nd, 3rd) will be determined based on the times.   When those races are completed, the top three from each level (Wolves, Bears, Webelos) will race for the overall championship.  During all races, there will be an alternate activity for those attending who are not watching the races.

Then join with us as we recognize the achievement of the over-all stake pinewood champions as well as the top racers from each level.

The fun will still yet be not done: after the presentation of scout awards, racing will continue for anyone else who wishes to race.  There will first be a check-in and car inspection for the non-cub scout racers.  These cars will also have to meet the conditions described in the rules below.   Parents, siblings (yes, including sisters) or anyone else with a pinewood derby car may enter.

Please look through the rules for racing. There are some very specific rules about the cars.  Please check to make sure your Pinewood Derby car will be in compliance with the rules: both before you begin working on your car and after it is completed.

If you have any questions your scout leaders cannot answer, please call/text:   Diana Clark   (479)466-8157  OR email dianasunshine@gmail.com

There are no official BSA rules for Pinewood Derby cars.  This page has several links that have very good recommendations:  www.pinewoodderby.com

I Know Who I Am LDS

"In April of 2012, the South Jordan River Stake decided to celebrate our youth as they again completed reading the Book of Mormon. It seemed the best way to share their message of the Book of Mormon in a short time would be to create a flashmob for all to see and hear."

Stake Primary

The stake primary leaders have been handing out yellow cards that encourage the children to become primary scripture masters! The goals include memorizing the First Presidency and the Twelve Apostles, the Articles of Faith, the monthly primary scriptures, the latter day prophets and the books in the Book of Mormon. In October, a stake primary scripture chase will be held.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir tops Billborad's year-end list for Traditional Classical Album

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir was listed at the very top of Billboard Magazine's Traditional Classical Albums Arts list of 2012 with the Orchestra at Temple Square taking the number 3 spot.

"Billboard's year-end charts are calculated using custom formulas that look at product sales, streaming music and radio play."

The Choir also showed up on four other Billboard year-end lists including Traditional Classical Albums, Traditional Classical Albums Imprint, Traditional

“This designation is much deserved and reflects the masterful music that the choir and orchestra produce, both in concert and recordings,” Deseret Book CEO Sheri Dew stated in a news release.
“It’s well known that Mack Wilberg is a musical genius, and this just further validates it.”

New Era asking youth to submit cover photos

Did you know there were four different covers for the January 2013 New Era? With the start of the new year comes a new Mutual theme: “Stand ye in holy places and be not moved” (see D&C 87:8). The New Era is asking youth to submit their own photos of them choosing to stand in holy places including but not limited to the temple, their homes, doing a service project, reading their scriptures, etc.

For more information on how to submit your photos, click here!
