STAKE YOUTH PIONEER TREK
"Trek is one of those experiences that will never be forgotten. Never are the youth or leaders asked to exert so much energy and go through so many hardships. They got a small taste of what it was like to be a pioneer and to cross the plains pulling a handcart. They bonded with each other, they pushed their physical limits, but gained spiritual fortitude and strength. They walked 6 miles the first day up hills, over rocks and streams and it was tough. At one point the women were asked to do all of the pulling because it represented the time when many men were called to join the Mormon Battalion and the women were left without their help. That was hard. As they pulled the men sang "Come, Come Ye Saints". They had a day full of games and fun the second day. The third day they walked 6 miles also, which was the end of their journey. Anyone who is asked would say it was a wonderful experience. Hard, but wonderful."

STAKE PRIESTHOOD ENCAMPMENT

"Scout Camp this year was a stake-organized Priesthood Encampment. It was held at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. There were many exciting activities to participate in as well as spiritual upliftment. They had the opportunity to zip down a zipline, cross a deep valley on cables, ride horses, jump off cliffs, as well as learn about missionary preparation and complete a variety of merit badges such as wilderness survival. Each boy was tired and exhausted after a long, active week, but each came home a stronger person physically and spiritually. What a rewarding time they had!"

STAKE PINE WOOD DERBY

It was race day! Cars were polished and wheels were greased. It was the day
to see whose car would beat them all. Many contestants showed up for the
event, and the cars were burning some rubber as they flew down the track.
Some speeds exceeded 200 mph, but thankfully none of the cars jumped the
track. Fred Anderson kept track of the racers and lanes and made sure it all
flowed smoothly. Barbara Smith and her counselors organized the event and
made sure it was enjoyable for everyone who attended. Sam Palmer and Chris
Carlson announced the event and interviewed many of the racers. There was
quite a crowd cheering and clapping, and some fantastic sportsmanship!
Horray for ALL of the incredible cars and fantastic racers, and
congratulations to those who received awards.

Pinewood Derby Rules

Are you ready for the Stake Pinewood Derby happening March 16th? You've got three and a half weeks to make the fastest, coolest, most styling car in the stake!
Take a minute to review the rules before you start carving.

Dimensions

  • Pinewood Derby cars should be no longer than 7 inches and no wider than 2.75 inches. The two sets of wheels must be at least 1.75 inches apart, and the car's body must have at least a 3/8-inch clearance off the ground to run properly on the track. The maximum weight for a Pinewood Derby car is 5 oz.

Accessories and Design

  • Scouts must use all materials in the Pinewood Derby kit: the pine block for the car's body, the wheels and the axles. Scouts may not modify the wheels with washers, bearings or bushings. Springs, starting devices or anything to propel the car besides gravity are prohibited. Scouts may lubricate wheels and axles with dry lubricant only.

Scouts may otherwise modify cars to their liking--including shape, paint or added details such as a driver or steering wheel--so long as they fall within the specified dimensions. Packs vary on wheel modification rules, but most allow some modifications that do not significantly change their weight or shape.

Stake Youth Hayride

It is always a great time when the youth from the Stake get together, which they did for their annual hayride on Saturday November 10th at the Lieutard’s place.

The thing they enjoy the most I think is to mingle and talk with one another. There were some fun activities planned as well like a handcart pull. Bishop Lieutard pulled them around with his tractor on the well-known hayride. Brother Steve Kelsey from Springdale 1st Ward came with his banjo in hand and played music as he taught some square dancing. Young Men and Women alike were great sports and had a fun time dancing together.
There was a roaring bonfire to keep them warm, Hamburgers and hotdogs by the dozens, no one went hungry!

A big thanks to all the leaders who helped plan this fun activity, and to Brother Lieutard who is always so generous to share his place.

STAKE YOUNG SINGLE ADULT ACTIVITY

“The young single adult dance and activities were great! Almost everyone dressed up to enter the Halloween costume contest. Prizes were given to the most original, most scary, most themed and many more. The food was so good! We had hamburgers, chips, and drinks, a whole table of amazing teats. There were games to play and a photo both. The scary haunted house was created in the basement of the institute building, it made everyone jump and scream. It was very well put together. Both creepy and fun music was played and everyone enjoyed dancing and getting to know others. There were some young adults who were not from our church. They really enjoyed the event and had a lot of fun. One young women told me to let her know when ever there is an activity because she wants to come. There were young adults from other stakes as well. It was an awesome event!”

OCTOBER, 2012 STAKE YOUTH COSTUME DANCE AND ACTIVITY

It's not a wonder the Springdale Stake Youth enjoyed the Stake Youth Costume Dance, thanks to our Stake Young Women's and Men's leaders. In fact, many expressed excitement there may be another one next year!

"We love spending time with friends and making new friends". "The food was really good". Leaders prepared carrot cake, peanuts and candy corn, popcorn, M&M's and little cake balls, among other things. "The decorations are great!".With signs taped to the walls of fairy-tale places and favorite cartoon movies, and lights strung across the gym, it lit up the room in a magical way.

The music was great for fun and dancing, it made for a great evening. Games were played every few minutes and cartoon movie quotes kept youth scrambling for candy.

Several youth who attended were not members of the Church and commented how much they enjoyed it.Youth from other stakes also came. "I love coming and meeting new people!", said one.

The youth agreed they loved dressing up and showing off their costumes to friends. Even the Adult joined in the fun!

AUGUST, 2012 STAKE RELIEF SOCIETY COMMUNITY "MORMON HELPING HANDS" PROJECT

On Saturday, August 25th the Relief Society Sisters came together to help the Springdale community by doing a variety of service. We contacted Lori Proud, the director of the Springdale Senior Center and partnered with her and their "Meals on Wheels" program to reach out to those who needed help with small projects or cleaning in their home. We were also approached by Don Hancock with the city of Springdale to see if we could provide the manpower to paint a house for a Springdale family in need. We were small in number but were able to service all 14 requests from the Senior Center and even got the home painted!
