"Trek is one of those experiences that will never be
forgotten. Never are the youth or leaders asked to exert so much energy and go
through so many hardships. They got a small taste of what it was like to be a
pioneer and to cross the plains pulling a handcart. They bonded with each
other, they pushed their physical limits, but gained spiritual fortitude and
strength. They walked 6 miles the first day up hills, over rocks and streams
and it was tough. At one point the women were asked to do all of the pulling
because it represented the time when many men were called to join the Mormon
Battalion and the women were left without their help. That was hard. As they
pulled the men sang "Come, Come Ye Saints". They had a day full of
games and fun the second day. The third day they walked 6 miles also, which was
the end of their journey. Anyone who is asked would say it was a wonderful
experience. Hard, but wonderful."
